Texas where he was born in 1939 and spent his entire life. Committed
to athletics (especially baseball) from his youth, he graduated from
Texas Western and had a long career as a P.E. teacher and coached a
wide range of intermural sports. Through this time, he played on
various local baseball and softball teams. At retirement in his 50s,
he became a constant presence in the Senior Games both locally and
throughout the country where he accumulated an astounding number of
awards for track and field events. He was inducted into both the El
Paso Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame as well as the El Paso
Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was devoted to his wife, Mary, with whom he shared over 50 years of
marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Kim, and two of his three
sons, Danny and David, as well as two grandchildren: Sarah and Anna.
He is preceded in death by his son, Bufe. He was known for his sense
of humor, passion for athletics, his Catholic faith, and finding a
great water park. He always demonstrated great patience and
determination in spite the longevity of his medical struggles.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 2:00pm. at
Restlawn Cemetery, 4848 Alps, El Paso TX 79904.
