Bertha Madrid Holguin, 92, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on June 5, 2022 after a long vibrant life as loving matriarch, grandma, mom, auntie, sister, daughter, and caring friend. Bertha was born on May 23, 1930 to Louisa Duran and Hermenegildo Madrid in El Paso, Texas. Her stepfather, Angel Manno, was the main father figure in her life. After having lived as a child in South Central Los Angeles, CA for several of her formative years, Bertha grew up in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from Ysleta High School in 1947, where upon she met her future husband, Reyes Holguin. Bertha and Reyes Holguin were married in 1949. They had three children: Anna Lorraine Holguin, Rose Mary Holguin, and Reyes David Holguin. Bertha cherished family dearly, and especially lived for her grand- and great-grand children. She loved to travel, go to the movies, visit with relatives, and share her family history and stories. Always eager to learn and gain new skills, Bertha’s employers included Southern Union Gas Company, the Federal Reserve, and the Civil Service (Fort Bliss, Texas) where she retired as a data processor in 1982. Bertha was passionate about connecting with friends and family alike, including meeting new people. Adored for her sincerity and child-like curiosity, she made friends easily and touched the lives of many. Later in life, she found community by volunteering her time and generous energy at Vista Del Sol Hospital where she met her late-life partner, Harry S. Bradford. Bertha was predeceased by her siblings Marina Madrid Artalejo, Robert Madrid, Joe Madrid, and Joe Manno. She is survived by her grandchildren: Trina Magallanez Nevarez, Jason Magallanez, Rene Valdez, Denise Valdez Solis, Delia Holguin Hennis, Danielle Rae Holguin, and Alexander Reyes Holguin; and her great-grandchildren: Tyler Nevarez, Tatum Nevarez, Noah Solis, Josh Kohrs, Mylena Hennis, Jayden Hennis, Caleb Hennis, and Michael Glover.
