Our Beloved mother Bertha H. Almanza went home to the Lord our God on Monday July 31, 2023. She passed peacefully shortly after celebrating her 92nd birthday surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mom was born on July 19, 1931, in Santa Rita, NM to Emilio and Angela Hinojos and lived most of her life in El Paso, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Canuto M. Almanza, sister Alicia Tapia, brothers Francisco and Emilio Hinojos and grandson Elliott Louis Almanza. She is survived by her nine children, Bertha Gallardo (David), Gil Almanza (Christina), Bonni Guerra (Larry), Louie Almanza (Lisa), Diane Tinkoff (Don), Irene Armendariz (Sal), Robert Almanza (Claudia), Dr. Emma Almanza (Frank Duran) and Ray Almanza (Andrea). She is also leaving behind 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren to honor and cherish her memory.
FAMILY was mom’s purpose in life. Her love and support for us was unconditional and we never wanted for anything – not an easy thing to accomplish with nine kids. She was the source of strength for our family and her resilience in meeting life’s challenges will always serve as great inspiration. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have met our mother knew how loyal and selfless she lived. Her deep faith, and the love and devotion to La Virgin De Guadalupe was unwavering. While mom’s passing leaves a huge void in our hearts, we know she will continue to watch over us.
We are grateful to Dr. Adekunle Adedeji and his staff for caring for mom with patience and understanding. A heartfelt THANK YOU to the staff of the Good Samaritan Memory Care Unit and Good Samaritan Hospice. We will always be grateful for the love and tender care they showed mom every day she was there.
Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to: the Good Samaritan Hospice at:
