Bernard Villegas, a native of El Paso, passed away at age 83, Sunday, July 31, 2011. He was a third generation optometrist. Founder and former owner of Franklin Optical in El Paso, Mexico, Colorado, Los Angeles, Central America, and the Dr. Villegas Optical Group in El Paso, bringing quality eye care to countless thousands. He was President of Friends of Father Rahm Foundation; member of El Paso Country Club for 1955-1994; and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He served with the U.S. Marines and was honorably discharged as a Major from the U.S. Army. He is survived by his former wife Sylvia; his children: Paula Villegas of Scottsdale, Arizona, Bernard J. Villegas, M.D. of Scottsdale, Arizona; his brother, Rev Robert A. Villegas, C.S.C., of Chamberino, New Mexico; sister, Rebecca Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas. Services for the eternal rest of Dr. Bernard Villegas will be held at St. Patrick Cathedral. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM prayed by Deacon Ernie Rodriguez at Martin Funeral Home West. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 12:00 PM at St. Patrick Cathedral offered by Father Rick Matty. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
