Barbara Jean Silva Herring, of Clint, TX passed away on August 13th, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born February 27th, 1936, to Harry and Clara Silva in Clint, TX. Barbara was a graduate of Ysleta High School, where she was active in band and Spanish Club. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX before being named the 53’-54’ El Paso Sun Queen. She married Russell Herring on August 2nd , 1954, with whom she raised six children. After completing her degree at UTEP she went on to teach for twenty-five years for Clint ISD teaching kindergarten, special education and fourth grade. She was active with the American Legion Post Number 598 and Texas Retired Teacher Association. Barbara loved all kinds of creative crafting including knitting and embroidery, leaving behind many treasures for future generations. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Clara Silva, and her son Danny Herring. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Russell Herring; her children: Kay Tucker of Odessa, TX, Beth Knight of San Antonio, TX, David Herring of Clear Lake, TX, Jennifer Bauer of Odessa, TX, and Kelly Shoemake of Livingston, TX; 10 grandchildren: Rebecca Nall, Kristen Tucker, Jonathan Knight, Benjamin and Eli Herring, Mackenzie and Sydney Bauer, Constance Guidry, Tanya Odom, Sierra Shoemake; and 5 great-grandchildren, Clara and Emily Nall, Rowdy Herring and Noah and Shelby Guidry.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Vigil Service at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, TX. An Interment will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd., El Paso TX. at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent in Barbara Silva Herring’s name to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 598 (Horizon City) Educational Assistance Fund.
