Armando “Mandis” Montoya, left this world on April 13th, 2023, and is now in everlasting peace with our Lord. He lived a full life and brought many years of joy to his family and friends. Our lives are so much better because of him.
Armando was born in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Bowie High School in 1955. He was a standout athlete in his youth and was the 1953 El Paso golden gloves flyweight champion. He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel; mother, Manuela; son, Armando Jr.; brothers, Daniel and Hector; sisters, Esther, Aurora, and Beatriz.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jessie; children, Hank, Maria, Matthew, Christina, and Thelma; grandchildren, Priscilla, Joshua, Judith, Isaac, Mariah, Leah, Micah, Elijah, Adrian, Paul, Steven, Austin, and Travis; 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Armando had a great sense of humor, a memorable laugh, and smiling green eyes, which led to the nickname, “Gato”. He was a pillar of strength for his family and his wisdom was always appreciated. He will be missed immensely, but we know that through the grace of God and the salvation of His Son, we will all meet again.
A visitaton for Armando will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. A rosary will occur Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 6:00 PM, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. A funeral mass will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette Ave, El Paso, Texas 79907.
