Isaiah 40:31. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our father Antonio Z. Martinez on Thursday Dec. 4, 2014, at age 89. Antonio was born March 20, 1925 in Clint, Texas. Antonio enjoyed 29 years of retirement, after working at ASARCO for 36 years. He became active in the Union in 1956, serving as a guard, trustee, recording secretary and vice-president of the Mine-Mill local. After a merger with the Steelworkers of America he became president of USWA local 509. Antonio is preceded in death by parents Jesus Martinez and Martina Zubia Martinez and sisters Manuela M Rincon and Elvira Cruz Martinez. He is survived by his wife Blanca Varela Martinez, daughter Thelma Sonia Villanueva ( Jesus ), sons Arturo ( Becky ), Tony ( Sylvia ), Sergio ( Becky ), Alex ( Pamela ), grandchildren; Rick, Rob, Erik, Mike, Dan, Chris, Mark, Alyson, Andy, John, Mike, Jennifer,Noah, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and his beloved companion Chico his chihuahua. Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Zaida Saenz for the compassion and care she showed our father during his brief illness. Dad you are gone but not forgotten,we love you and may you rejoice in heaven with our Lord, your loving family. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 7:00 pm.
