Angelika Elisabeth (Vogt) Wolf, 86, long time resident of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Brevard, North Carolina on December 30, 2022. She was the widow of the late David E. Wolf of Springfield, Illinois.
Elisabeth was born to Gustav and Katharina (Schneider) Vogt on September 8, 1936, near Oberwesel, Germany. Her hometown was a small village, Weiler-Boppard, along the middle Rhine River valley. Her parents tended to a small farm growing grapes for winemaking. Young Elisabeth and her brother, Sebastian, often helped work in the fields. Sebastian would later develop the farm into a B&B, and he would become a well-respected master winemaker in the region. Elisabeth's early years were marked by tough economic times and war in Germany. These experiences left her with a strong ethic for making the most of what she had.
On December 30, 1961, Elisabeth married David E. Wolf, a US Air Force serviceman, stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Their Air Force career would offer frequent moves to different military bases across the US and Germany. Together they enjoyed over 47 years of marriage and raised six children. In 1975, they retired from the Air Force to the Springfield, Illinois area, and later settled in Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1985. David passed away in 2008.
Elisabeth was a devout Roman Catholic and member of the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church.
She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and gardening. Her other interests included reading, knitting, and baking. She was an avid correspondent and could be depended upon for news about friends and family around the world. Elisabeth loved her growing family and photos of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews decorated the walls of her house. She became a US Citizen in 1996.
Elisabeth is preceded in death by her parents Gustav and Katharina, husband David, and her brother Sebastian who most recently passed in August. She is survived by her six children: Katharina Knudson of Albany, Oregon; David Wolf, Jr. of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Barbara Ristow of Brevard, North Carolina; William Wolf of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Angelika Faull of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Charles Wolf of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Elisabeth will be buried beside her husband David E. Wolf at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas. Funeral Mass will be conducted Wednesday, January 11th, 2023 at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 4805 Byron St., El Paso, TX. Final rite of committal will be held at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that remembrances may be made as donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Arrangements are under the direction of Martin Funeral Home West, in El Paso, TX. 915-584-1234.
