It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Angel Florentino Esparza announces his passing on June 26, 2018. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was born on February 11, 1922 to Guadalupe and Florentino Esparza. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Guadalupe Day. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Alicia; five of his siblings; his children, Delia Esparza (Joe Olague), Yolanda Esparza, Raul Esparza, Juan (Teri) Esparza, Jaime Esparza (Noelia Molina), Monica Esparza (Larry Mendoza), Angela (John) Hubbard; David (Tami) Esparza; his sixteen grandchildren; and two great grandchildren with one on the way.
Angel, a lifelong resident of El Paso, graduated from Cathedral High School. He served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Western College of Mines. He was a teacher, a draftsman, and a computer programmer at Fort Bliss Army Post. He was a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly for his family. He especially enjoyed losing to his Alicia at dominos. Angel, an avid reader, lover of stories, and dreamer, imbued that love to his family.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to their sister Angela and her family for their devoted and excellent care of Dad.
The entire family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Texas Oncology, Envision Hospice, and Home Bound Ministry of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, especially Dr. Jesus A. Gomez, M.D., Pauline, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Jesus, David, Jennifer, Gail, Maggie, Katie, and Connie and Mike Wilczewski. They were all gracious and generous in their care.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 1, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana Avenue. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday July 2, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N. Mesa Avenue, with the Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.
