Andres Alfonso “Poncho” Salcido, 81, passed away on Wednesday, 12 November 2014. Born in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Agustin Salcido and Juana Fierro. He was one of nine children. His family moved to Juarez when he was young and he left school at the age of 13 to help his family make ends meet. He made his way to El Paso and entered the Army in 1957. He spent a portion of his time in Alaska where he improved his English skills (after numerous KP assignments!) and received an honorable discharge having worked as QuarterMaster. He took advantage of the GI Bill to became a Master Plumber. He is survived by Maria Guadalupe, his wife of 55 years, his children Leticia O’Connor (Patrick), Irene Salcido, Rosa Maria Salcido, Andres Salcido (Monique), Delia Vancil (Paul), grandchildren Lauren, Alicia, Anne Marie, Mia, Sophia, Rebecca, Janiece, Jeffrey, Charles, Gregory, Katherine, Juliet, his brother Agustin and scores of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 16, 2014 from 5pm - 9pm with a 6:00 pm rosary at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe 2709 Alabama Ave, El Paso, TX 79930. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
