Alton Luke Bailey went to be with his Savior on Monday, December 2, 2013. He was born August 17, 1928 to Nora and Luke Bailey and raised in Blossom, Texas. He graduated from high school at age 15 and graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in Agriculture Economics. He received a master’s degree in Agriculture Economics from NMSU.
He married the love of his life, Madine Ayres in Pecos, Texas and they raised their family in Anthony. His accomplishments were many. He served as the Department Head of Agriculture Extension Services at NMSU. He was a commercial farmer growing onions, chile, and lettuce and was a consultant to farmers throughout the U.S. He owned Bailey Seed Co. and had clients worldwide. He was honored as professor emeritus at NMSU. He was also honored to address the U.S. Congress in 1979. He was a deacon at FBC, Anthony and taught Sunday School for many years. He served terms on the Anthony Town Council. He also served in the U.S. Army and the New Mexico National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Madine, his son Gary, his parents, and his brothers. He is survived by his three children, Steven Bailey, Kenneth Bailey and wife Josie, his daughter Janet Booth and husband Dale, grandchildren Richie Booth, Bailey Booth, Joshua Luke Bailey, and Thomas Booth, sister, Telia Baughn, brother-in-law Jim Ayres, sister-in-law Ann Ayres, sister-in-law Cruz Ayres, also several nieces and nephews.
We love you Daddy. We look forward to joining you, Mother, Gary, and our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. What a day that will be!
Visitation will be Thursday, December 5 from 6 to 8 PM at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Service will be Friday, December 6 at 10 AM at First Baptist Church, 201 Lincoln, Anthony NM.
