When she was five, the family emigrated to Juarez, Mexico then to El Paso where her father owned Yandell Market.
Because she was not fluent in English, she was placed in the first grade at age 10.
Not to be deterred, she graduated valedictorian from EPHS at the age of 17.
Rather than take advantage of several college scholarships she married Abdala Aboud in 1940 owner of General Furniture Store. Upon the untimely death of her mother, Alice became the matriarch to her younger siblings. She became known for her cooking among the Syrian community, raising six children with a strong work ethic instilling in them the value of education.
Approaching her sixties, Alice helped her daughters make Margaret's Fashions a 25 year old successful business. Alice Haddad Aboud is living testimony to "where there is a will, there is a way"…in any language.
