You and the family are in my prayers. I have know Al and Joe since the days that we lived on Memphis Street and shared many hours together.

Alfred was a very close friend during my youth.  As neighbors on Memphis Street, we spent much time together.  His parents were also folks with whom I had a close relationship.
A fond memory is when Al would bring little brother Joe, still in his stroller, and we'd race on the sidewalk with Al pushing Joe "lickty split".
While dressing for school early one morning while it was still dark, a knock came on our door, and it was Al in uniform, just back from Europe.
He played the bassoon in the Austin High band when in school, and as one of the "older kids", Al was a role model for some of us younger guys.
My sincere condolences to the family.

We are sorry for your loss and are think of you at this time. I know my mo and dad always enjoyed their visits with Al and Louise every time they came to El Paso.

Since I was a young child there has been a place of complete comfort for me. A safety blanket if you will. When the daily struggles of life and it’s trying times would way me down to the point of exhaustion, a voice would call out to me, “It’s time to come home”. When my cup was on empty I knew the only way to fill it back up again would be to return to the ones that loved me the most, my Grandparents. I would drive all night following the love that was given to me unconditionally. Knowing I would be greeted with the smile and warmth I soo desperately needed. Anytime there was a project I had to do for school, Grandpa was right there devising a plan to pass the grade. We built ships together and flew amazing kites. We would sit for hours outside on the swing as planes passed by, Grandpa describing each one in detail to me. Falling asleep on his lap while we rocked, him waiting patiently as I stirred from my sleep. I remember waking up to the smell of Grandmas coffee and Grandpa would be out in the yard tending to its needs. The concrete felt soo cool and clean under my feet.  One of the greatest treasures was being able to come and stay with them as a young child, me sleeping right between them in the bed. I remember how soft the sheets were against my skin. Nothing in the world felt safer to me. The house is filled with clocks, ticking in every room. My house is now filled with clocks that bring a bit of solace, contentment when I am away from them. Almost like the heart beat of the ones that have stood next to me in my times of need.  I have always feared the day that one of them would pass on, knowing that a piece of my soul would be taken with them. Grandpa’s beautiful smile and subtle sarcastic humor breathed life into those he encountered. In his presence there is a great humbleness that will be passed on. He has touched many of hearts and transformed those who have walked in the shadow of doubt. The unconditional love he has given made rivers flow and hearts mend a-new. He was a man of strength and wit that commanded a path of great resistance and humility. A man that the lord himself will be proud to shake hands with. He gave me the gift of song and constantly nourished the talents I have yet to bring full circle. This is a man whom I loved as my own father. This man was the apple of my eye. May you sing with me and down on us from heaven. My loving Grandfather, Alfred M. Muckelroy.

I once knew a great man. who stood w dignity and pride. who was quick to lend a hand when needed and gave me unconditional love at every corner. he was like a father to me. We flew kytes together and built ships, a lifetime. He served his country well. This man was my grandfather, and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace. 12/14/2010.

Al was a true, caring friend since 1959.  My life was better for having known him.  It's exciting to know that he can sing "Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus" in person this year!  He will never be forgotten.  Louise, my love to you and Gary.
