

On November 6, 2017 Alex was called to our Lord and to be with his mom in heaven.
Alex is survived by his father Efren González, his twin brother Andrew “Andy” González, his youngest brother Efren González Jr., his sister in law Gabriela B. González, his nephews Sebastian and Jacob, his grandparents Manuel and Cruz González and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mom, Dora González, and his maternal grandparents Andrés and Angelita Borunda.
To say that Alex is special is an understatement. Alex left an indelible mark in the lives of every person he met. Alex was a man’s man, a gentleman to the core, a lesson his mom and dad taught him and that he proudly cherished. As a brother, both literally and figuratively, Alex always knew what to say to make you feel safe and invincible because you knew he was on your side.
Alex worked at the University of New Mexico for 20 years and his contributions to higher education are countless. Alex began his tenure at UNM as an undergraduate student and lastly the University Registrar for the last eight (8) years. He was active and respected in the community, making lifelong friends. His impact on the lives of students’ and in a special way his fraternity brothers in Omega Delta Phi is unforgettable. His passion was working for the success of students. Alex was beloved by his staff, coworkers and colleagues at UNM and across the nation.
There will be a viewing at 6:00 p.m. on November 13, 2017 followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home - West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at San Martin de Porras Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Efren González Jr., Dylan González, Larry Borunda, Ruben Lozoya, Anthony Romero and Jesus Rodriguez.
Interment will follow at the Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Sunland Park, NM.
