He was born November 7, 1918, near Malvern, AR to Burla Husbands Provence and Henry Husbands. Wayne was a faithful member of West Side Baptist Church and a Mason. He worked at Lion Oil Refinery for 40 ½ years. He loved baseball and enjoyed coaching church league softball. Papaw loved his family and church family and had a special place on the back pew of the church where he loved to greet and talk with everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; daughter, Virginia Matthews; son-in-law, Ronnie Matthews; sister, Helen Russ; and brother, James “Red” Husbands.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Husbands, Jr. and his wife Bernie of El Dorado; grandchildren, Shannon Sanders, Ben Matthews, Chris Husbands, and Chad Husbands all of El Dorado; three great grandchildren, Tyler and Luke Sanders, Madelynn Matthews; and one sister, Janet Dunlop of Elk Grove, CA.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2015, at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Perry and Dr. Glen Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015, at Young’s.
