Kay (Katy) Carolyn Terrell, 83, of Memphis, TN passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Memphis, TN. She was born on January 22, 1941 to William Paul Terrell and Mildred Marguerite Wisinger Terrell in Smackover, AR. Katy graduated from Soso High School in Mississippi in 1958, and was the head cheerleader of the Bluedevils’ cheerleading squad her senior year.
Katy was of the Catholic faith. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Office of Personnel Management (formerly the Civil Service Commission) for the US government Memphis branch, a medical transcriptionist at St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a proofreader and page assembler in the composing department of The Commercial Appeal newspaper, and an administrator at a Catholic women’s shelter. She was also a member of the Master Gardener’s Association.
Katy loved the beach and the ocean, and also had a great fondness for lighthouses. She loved the outdoors, plants, shrubs, and flowers, and loved to do gardening and dig around in the dirt. She had a deep love for animals and owned many pet cats and dogs throughout her life. She was an extremely empathetic and loving lady who took great joy in helping people and animals. She was very personable and well liked and definitely inherited her father’s strong personality and gift of gab and charm. No one was ever a stranger to her.
Preceding Katy in death were her parents, and grandmother, Julia Elizabeth Carruth Terrell.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Kevin Ishee; brother, John L. Terrell (Sharon); nephew, William L. Terrell (Bonnie); niece, Valerie Brookby (John); great nieces, Mackenzie Terrell, Sarah Brookby; and great nephews, Clark Terrell and Roland Brookby.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Smackover Cemetery officiated by Father Edward D'Almeida and under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
