Jamie Rhyan Armour went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, November 18, 2024. Born on August 29, 1950, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to James Knox “J.K.” and Esterlene Fletcher Rhyan, Jamie grew up as the younger of the two children in the Rhyan home.
After graduating from El Dorado High School in 1968, Jamie majored in English and graduated from Henderson State University in 1972. As a high school and college student, Jamie developed a love for fast cars and “sporty” driving. While in college, she married her high school sweetheart, Eric Armour, who remained her husband until her last day on this Earth. Jamie dedicated 28 years of her professional life to being a teacher and librarian at Junction City High School. She went on to enjoy teaching an additional five years at Hector High School in Hector, Arkansas. No matter where she was teaching, Jamie shared her passion for reading and the value one can gain from literature with generations of students. It was not uncommon for Jamie to read a James A. Michener novel cover to cover in a weekend—she was a voracious reader.
Exceeding even her love of literature was Jamie’s love for her family. Jamie and Eric raised two children, Joseph and Erika. She often found herself driving kids to baseball games, Boy Scouts, dance practices, or cheerleading events. She never missed a game or recital.
As her kids married and moved away, Jamie loved the adventure of visiting the various places they called home: California, Texas, Florida, and more. Once grandchildren arrived, Jamie rivaled the best grandmothers—or “Nanas”—in the world. She cherished every second spent with her grandchildren. Not only did she read to them every chance she could, but she also wrote long, heartfelt letters, cards, and text messages to her grandchildren that they will treasure for many years to come.
Jamie was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Knox Rhyan. She is survived by her husband, Eric Armour of El Dorado; her son, Joseph Armour, his wife Amanda, and their sons, Sebastian and Dominick, of Montgomery, Texas; and her daughter, Erika Armour, her husband Chris, and their son, Knox, of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado, one hour before the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A committal service will follow at Champagnolle Cemetery immediately after the funeral.
In honor of Jamie and her favorite color of red, please consider wearing red or a red accent with your attire (tie, pocket square, neckerchief, scarf, etc.).
Condolences can be expressed online at www.youngsfuneralhome.com for the Armour family.
