Coach Pettitt was born on August 26, 1938 in Hot Springs, AR, the son of William and Lily Kemp Pettitt. He was a 1961 graduate of Southern Arkansas University (then Southern State College) where he excelled on the football field. He was inducted into Southern Arkansas University Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. He retired from the El Dorado School District after a long career as a coach, teacher and administrator. He was an active member of College Avenue Church of Christ. He also served our country in the United States Marine Corps. Coach enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and time with family, friends and the many young people he mentored.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie Patton Pettitt; his sister, Ruth Pettitt Price; niece, Karen Price Bell and nephew, Jeff Pettitt.
Survivors are son Todd Pettitt (Julie) and children Connie and Carlee Pettitt; daughter Dianna Aldridge and children Dustin and Lily Aldridge; brother, Hal Pettitt (Evelyn); nephews, Philip Pettitt, Sr. (Patty) and Jim Pettitt; niece, Kimla Price Carter (Ronnie) and several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Debbie Smith.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 12, 2022 at College Avenue Church of Christ Life Center with Mike Meadows, David Ponder and John David Turbeville officiating. Cremation services provided by Young’s Funeral Directors.
