Harold Lee Barker, Jr. (Lee) was born in El Dorado, Arkansas (of which he has strong local roots) on July 7, 1951. He lived his 70-year life as a strong minded, hardworking, mostly healthy man, but was suddenly taken by an unexpected heart attack on July 31, 2021.
Lee worked for the “bread company” for 48 years, where he received numerous awards and recognized worldwide. Lee will forever be remembered for being dependable and willing to help anyone with anything at any time. His dedication to his family (who affectionately referred to him as “Old Man”) is only matched by his love for collecting tools, working on cars, crafting, woodworking, and the Christmas holiday season. Lee loved to tell jokes. He would frequently be incapable of completing his own jokes without breaking into laughter, leaving his audience anticipating the punchline. He laughed hard... and made his friends and family laugh equally hard.
Lee is preceded in death by his father, Harold Lee Barker Sr.; parental grandparents, Rolland and Roxy Barker and maternal grandparents, James Ottis Taylor and Ettie May Taylor; brothers, Samuel William Liggin and David Eddy Taylor.
His family ties are vast and he leaves behind wife of 37 years, Cindy Lynn Barker; mother, Sybil Taylor Barker; step-mother, Laverne Barker and her kids; sister, Lisa Barker Woolsey; aunt and uncle, Ruby and Gary Wilson; 4 children, Michelle Barker, Jerremy Barker, Lee Barker, James Barker; and 4 step children, Felicia Popescu, Eric Shaffer, Conan Shaffer, Dan Harper; and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Young’s Funeral Directors.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors with Rev. Cody Lain officiating.
