He was born October 21, 1916, in DeQueen, AR to John Thomas and Ethyl Obenchain Tolbert. George worked 40 years for Missouri Pacific Railroad before his retirement. After retirement he enjoyed fishing and travelling. He was a former member of St Paul United Methodist Church and a current member of Grace Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife of 55 years, Lucille Tolbert; daughter, Elizabeth Storey; brother, Wallace Tolbert; and sister, Betty Reid.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Maerine Tankersley Tolbert; two daughters, Patricia Owens of Glenwood, AR, Debra Bennett of Dickinson, TX; and one son, George Tolbert, Jr of Hot Springs Village; AR, two step-daughters, Wanda Lanier of Liberty, TX; and Barbara Cribb of Hot Springs, AR; 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, at Young’s Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be in the Young’s Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating and Rev. Terrel Langley assisting with interment following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to a charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Tolbert.
