Doris was born July 18, 1934 to Oscar Duncan Brown and Velma Lorraine Easley in Fordyce, Arkansas. She attended the Arkansas School for the Deaf in Little Rock where she developed a love for sports, especially basketball. In her younger years, Doris was very active in the California deaf community, sports, and clubs. She retired from Security National Bank in California after a career in data entry. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, knitting, cooking, watching the LA Lakers and basketball playoffs. Her passion was to teach and mentor everyone in communicating with the deaf using American Sign Language or ASL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and all her brothers and sisters.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Velma Ariaz (Gary) of Bakersfield, California; daughter, Sue Yaller of Moorpark, California; son, Ron Wilson (Karen) of Panama City, Florida; son, Stewart Wilson (Debra) of El Dorado, Arkansas; daughter Kim Jarrosiak (Mark) of Grover Beach, California; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Arkansas School for the Deaf,
2400 W Markham St, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Young’s Funeral Directors.
