battle against pancreatic cancer. His courage during this battle was an
inspiration to many as he never complained, fighting every day since his
diagnosis. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
David was born July 6, 1968 in Shreveport, LA. He moved to El Dorado in 1976
and then graduated from El Dorado High School in 1986 after playing football and
powerlifting for the Barbell Club, coached by Crawford Knight. He attended
Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and graduated with a B.S. in Marketing in
May, 1990. He was a powerlifter at Tech and an active member of the Association
of Baptist Students (ABS) singing with the Messenger group and participating in
intramural sports.
In July, 1990 he married Elizabeth and made Ruston his home. They were members
of First Baptist Church where he coached basketball for the Royal Ambassadors
(RAs). He was active in the Ruston Jaycees, serving as president his final
year. He returned with his family to El Dorado in 2002.
David was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado, served on the Board
of Deacons, and was a substitute Sunday School teacher. He was an Upward
Basketball coach at First Baptist Church for several years before he and his
wife became directors of the program. He was passionate about sports and
coaching children brought him great joy. David faithfully served as a member of
the board of United Way of Union County and was one of the best Girl Scout dads
and a member of the Girl Scout Diamonds of AR, OK, and TX. He served as a
volunteer debate coach at El Dorado High School from 2010 to 2012. David was
also the current 2nd Vice President of the El Dorado Band Parents Association.
David is survived by his wife of 26 ½ years, Elizabeth Lynn Richmond Pratt; two
daughters: Ashley Elizabeth Pratt of London, England, and Rebecca Lynn Pratt of
El Dorado; mother, Martha Molnaird Pratt of El Dorado; sister Marla Kaye Martin,
brother-in-law Mike, and nephew Spencer of Monroe, LA; mother- and
father-in-law, Linda and John Richmond of Ruston, LA; brother-in-law John
Michael Richmond, and his wife Missi , and their daughters, Sydney Kate, Carrie
Madeline, and Mary Michael of Baton Rouge, LA and numerous other aunts, uncles,
cousins, family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Gary Wilson Pratt of El Dorado and
his grandparents, Melrose and Wilson Pratt and Mary and Bo Molnaird.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Keith Davis and staff of Smackover
Family Clinic, Dr. Brad Baltz and CARTI Center staff, as well as the staff of
St. Vincent’s CCU for their care and support during David’s treatment and
hospitalization. The family wishes to express their thanks to Deltic Timber,
his employer, for their loyalty and support.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Young’s
Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Kelley and Rev. Brian Trostle officiating. Interment
will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s
Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9,
20017 at Young’s.
