I periodically searched for Paul on social media hoping to see what he’s been up to all these years but never found anything until last week. I was heartbroken to see that he left this world way too soon. Looking back to 35+ years ago is quite a struggle, but the more I reminisce the more I fondly remember the time we had together.

I met Paul in the early 80’s at the Black Angus in El Cajon. Back then they had a live band/dancing and it was quite a popular spot.  One night I walked in the and the waitress said, I have someone for you to meet. There was Paul surrounded by a group of friends joyfully handing shots out to everyone. (I think it was his birthday). 

Paul & I started dating and ended up being together for over two years. During this time Paul worked as a delivery truck driver (aka the “milkman”), lived in an upper corner one-bedroom apartment on Graves Avenue and drove an old light blue VW bug.  He had a face like Robert Redford, a body like Popeye and a sense of humor like Robin Williams. He seemed to love all sports (especially baseball). If the TV was on, it was sports. The last time I saw him, he stopped by where I worked and was excited to tell me about the new job he landed with the Padres and proudly showed off a Padres ring he was wearing.

We sure laughed a lot!  He was such a goofball. He got a kick out of embarrassing me in public (not so funny). I dug through my old photo albums to relive our time together. I did not have as many photos of him as I thought and then I remembered he didn’t like his picture taken. For someone voted best smile in high school you’d think he’d be friends with a camera. I still managed to snap a few. 

My deepest condolences go out to Paul’s family & friends. May your memories of good times filled with laughter be your strongest and leave a smile on your face.


Paul's energy and enthusiasm were contagious. He was very funny and fun to be with, too. But most of all, he was generous to a fault and he created many happy memories for lots of people that will last a lifetime. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. Deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends.

My sincerest sympathy to Paul's family and friends. I have wonderful memories of Paul's wit and sense of humor. He was a joy to know in high school. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing.
