Linda led a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and memories cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her son, Kevin Dillon; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dillon; daughter, Erin O'Brien; son-in-law, Daniel O'Brien; grandsons Parker O'Brien and Cameron O'Brien; and her sisters, Rebecca Weissberg and Judith Curry.
Her devotion to her family shone brightly through her roles as a mother, aunt, and grandmother. She found joy in her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. During the weekends you could typically find “Grandma Lin” on the baseball field watching one of Parker’s games or cheering on Cameron at a dance performance.
Linda grew up in the city of Linda Vista with her two sisters as the daughter of a World War II veteran. She followed her sisters’ footsteps as a member of the Drill Team and also joined the yearbook staff at Kearny High School. After graduating, she made her way north to the Los Angeles area to start her career. While there she got married and had two children. Her marriage did not last, but fortunately she was able to return to the San Diego community that she loved to raise her kids in the East County area near her parents, sisters, and their families.
Linda raised her children as a single mother, supporting the many extracurricular activities, never missing an event, all while maintaining a successful career in law for over 40 years. Linda possessed a sharp mind that fueled her career as a legal secretary and ultimately a paralegal, having gone back to complete her certification (with honors!) after her children were grown.
Linda was also a dedicated caregiver, not only to her own children and grandchildren, but also to her mother during her mother’s final years. Throughout her life, faith and a keen sense of humor were guiding lights. She exemplified kindness and warmth with no hidden agendas. She was always good for a laugh and had a quick wit making her a delight to be around. She did not have a high number of friends, but she made up for numbers in quality, developing friendships that spanned decades.
In her leisure time, Linda savored the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed sipping tea, indulging in her love for reading, and watching the latest British crime drama. Enjoying breakfast out was one of her favorite activities, where she made sure to order her signature extra crispy bacon. She also was a lifelong San Diego Padres fan and especially loved Tony Gwynn’s years on the team.
Her Celebration-of-Life will serve as a time for reflection and remembrance of a life well-lived, although cut shorter than we all would have liked. Linda Kay Dillon will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May her soul rest in peace, forever remembered for her humor, warmth, wit, and unwavering love.
