Whenever I walk out to pick up the morning paper....first thing I see is my little leprechaun sitting under my porch lamp. A friendly reminder
that Jackie and Bob are always with us .  
Jackie was the spirit that held the Burns family together.  
Tom and I were truly blest with their Love and Friendship...
Their beat plays on in harmony to serenade all who will stop and listen......

People live well into their 90s now and centenarians are not unusual. Jackie's life was so well lived, so filled with family, love, laughter and accomplishment, no wonder she made it to 96. She was the center of her fanily's universe--though the same could be said for Lemon Grove, where she was greatly admired.

Hard to believe a year has gone with the wind. We missed Jackie every day. In the words of the old song from the 1960s, "We just turned around and she's gone." But what a life! Her contributions to civic life, to charity, to church, to family and friends live on.

With Jackie Burns' passing, we are witnessing the fading away of an era in the life of Lemon Grove. Happily, the red and yellow roses that Jackie recommended for the planters between the two historic buildings, the Parsonage Museum and the H. Lee House, in Treganza Heritage Park, are thriving. They just received their annual cutback at the expert hands of Kindahl and Mario of Hunter's Nursery, a place Jackie knew well. We in the Lemon Grove Historical Society owe Bob and Jackie Burns so much, especially the Parsonage Museum, now age 124 and beautiful. When Bob was mayor of Lemon Grove in 1996 we presented our goal of saving the city's first church, then a derelict building, as a civic museum. After some talk, Mayor Burns said, "Oh, just give it to them!" The meeting erupted in applause.  Thanks to the sense of history and love of community constantly displayed by Bob and Jackie Burns, we are a stronger place; the two buildings that are linchpins of civic history live on because of them. We will miss them forever--their twinkling humor, forbearance, generosity, can-do spirit, faith and firm belief that the best is yet to come.

Dearest Sheila and Family....It was always Jackie and Bob...known for their love of family, friends, and the place they called home....the “Little City who Could”.
We traveled with them through the years when Bob and Tom served on the Lemon Grove City Council and the San Diego Metropolitan Transportation Board. 
Fond memories were created when in their company. 
Jackie taught Dona to stop!....smell the roses and to “ Live in the Moment”..... to sip beer to settle a stomach after a wild cab ride in San Francisco....there was always laughter when in the presence of the true leprechauns, Jackie and Bob...
Their life journey is a testament ..a true story of Love that overflowed and showered us both......always remembered in our hearts.....including Bob’s Red Barn and Jackie’s Rose Bushes.
