It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William James Cowan on June 3, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife Carol; his daughter Allyson (Michael), his step-daughters Linda (Brian) and Sheri (Jay); his adopted sons David and Derek (deceased); 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy and nothing made him happier than spending time with his children and grandchildren. William was born in Innisfail, AB and grew up in Leduc with his father (Floyd), mother (Ethel), sister (Ann), and brother (Howard). He spent a brief period of time in the Northwest Territories where he took his first job as a meteorologist. His love for meteorology was very well-known as was his love of the Army and Navy Club and Shuffleboard where he won Men's Singles Canadian Champion. Later in life, William and Carol would find a passion for Pet Therapy and would spend many days taking their service dog Tawney to the Stollery Children's Hospital and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Centre to bring light into others' lives. His compassion for others was apparent and many will remember him as a quiet man with a heart of gold.
As per his wishes that people remember him as he was in life, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has been entrusted to Memories Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made directly to the Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
