It is with sadness that we share Stephen (Steve) Thomas Belyea, 79, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, in Edmonton, with loved ones by his side.
Born on October 11, 1945, in Toronto, Ontario, to Everton Roy Belyea and Ruby Jean Belyea, Steve lived a life filled with dedication, quick learning and a remarkable ability to master any challenge he undertook.
He began his journey as a plumber's apprentice at age 16. By the age of 20, Steve was a general foreman, and soon after, he earned his Red Seal certification not once, but three times over, as a plumber, steamfitter, and "B" Pressure – Pipeline Welder. His work took him across Canada and even as far as Russia. He was a proud member of the Local 488 in Edmonton for 58 years. Steve retired as a Chief of Quality Control at a power engineering firm, a position that showcased his commitment to excellence.
Steve was a devoted partner to Claudette for 48 years. His meticulous nature was shown in how he'd agonize over finding the perfect greeting card, often selecting several for an occasion—each one, an expression of his deep love and friendship.
He was a caring and supportive father to Stephen Jr. (Chrisy), Jessica (John) and Rockwell (Nikki). He was a proud and loving grandpa to his little guy, Felix, the apple of his eye.
He is survived by his brother, Paul Roy Belyea (wife, Julie and nephew, Daniel.) He maintained close friendships throughout his life, notably with John Peregoodoff and Mike Kennedy, who remained buddies to the end.
Steve will be remembered for his lightning-quick mind, his dedication to his craft, and his unwavering love for his family. He’s deeply missed already.
A gathering to remember Steve will be held this summer. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve's memory to The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation (https://www.stollerykids.com/).
