Shirley lived a life of contentment, full of music, art, travel, fun and laughter. She so enjoyed starting the day with a good cup of coffee…and savoring a glass or two of a full-bodied cabernet sauvignon while cooking dinner, watching an Oilers game or dining out!
She spent many years as an X-ray technician, and last worked for Alberta Tuberculosis Services. Although proud of her working life, she was more than happy to end her career in 2014 and move on to the next chapter of her life.
Health challenges in 2019 tested her strong will and fortitude, but did not define her. Shirley’s generosity, strength, straight-forwardness and humor were enjoyed and cherished by all who knew her.
Family meant everything to Shirley. She is survived by her sister Linda; brother James (Anna); sister-in-law Doreen; nieces and nephews Brandy (Ken), Amber (Bing); Kyle (Stephanie), and Hedin (Mary); great-nephew and great-niece Ethan and Ella; and her best friend (non-human!) Rosie. She was predeceased by her parents Steve and Sadie, and brother Eddy.
Special bonds with cousins, aunties, uncles and close friends rounded out her life.
Shirley’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to all her wonderful caregivers, especially the Palliative Home Care team and Dr. Lauren Girard. Your kindness, caring and compassion had a huge impact on Shirley’s life journey, and meant the world to us.
Celebration of life has taken place. In Shirley’s honor, please consider a donation to the Pilgrims Hospice Society or the Edmonton Humane Society. The next time you raise a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, think of Shirley and smile!
