Shayne Joel Zender
September 15th, 1975 – December 2nd, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shayne Joel Zender on the morning of December 2nd, 2023, a beloved Dad, Husband, brother, son, and friend.
Shayne leaves behind a legacy of immense love and devotion to his wife and “most favorite person”, Stevie, and his two boys, Hudson and Keaton. He is survived by his parents, Ken and Judy Zender, his siblings Chad (Tiffany) Zender and Codie (Matt) Richard and his nieces and nephews Victoria, Owen, Rebecca and Alex. He is also survived by his in-laws, John and Debbie Thomas, brother-in-law Nathan Lypkie and nephew Jayden. Shayne had a massive friend group that will dearly miss him along with his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
After growing up in Parkland County and Devon area, Shayne pursued post-secondary education at Red Deer College and NAIT. Shayne was a successful entrepreneur in the automotive industry running Zender Ford and Big Rock Dodge through his partnership in Zender Auto Group with his siblings, Chad and Codie. He truly was a car guy and loved accessorizing his trucks. He was always adding something onto his vehicles and could tell you every single thing about any vehicle out on the road.
Most importantly though, Shayne was the best Dad and Husband. There was nothing that gave him more joy than spending time with Stevie and his boys. He was always up for anything and loved spending time outdoors with his family and friends camping in his trailer, fishing, ATVing, out in a boat on the water, or as the “tendy” playing hockey. He was never one to say no to anything and was known by all for his laid back and carefree attitude. He was everyone’s favorite person.
Even though Shayne was dealt a cruel hand and taken from us far too soon, we remember him with deep affection and gratitude for the moments we shared. Though he is no longer with us in person, his memory will continue to brighten our lives.
We would like to thank Shayne’s doctors and nurses throughout his cancer battle at the University of Alberta Hospital and at the Cross Cancer Institute. Additionally, we thank the amazing team at the Pilgrim’s Family Hospice Centre who made Shayne’s final days so peaceful.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at 1:00pm – 4:00pm on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, at the Heritage Park Pavilion 5100 – 41 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta. All family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations in Shayne’s honour to the Pilgrims Hospice Society 9808 – 148 Street, Edmonton, AB T5N 3E8 or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation designated to the Cross Cancer Institute.
