Russ is survived by his loving wife Erika and daughter Aimée, siblings Shirley, Garry, Lorna, Dwayne and Cheri, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He is predeceased by his mother and father, and sisters Sylvia and Elaine. Words cannot express how much Russ will be missed.
Born to parents Madeline and Frederick Brown, Russ was the sixth of eight children to grow up on the family farm in Calahoo. Curious and meticulous, Russ worked on cars, motorbikes, and his Uncle Mel’s farm during summer months.
At a teen dance in Busby, Alberta, Russ asked Erika to dance. Their courtship led to marriage on August 11, 1973, followed by a rich and supportive partnership of over 50 years. Both Erika and Russ shared a desire for a family of their own, and in 1981, their only daughter Aimée was born and brought to their home in Sherwood Park.
Throughout his career, Russ worked with dedication and perseverance at Daam Galvanizing, then Sterling Crane. These positions brought the family to Vancouver, Fort McMurray, and ultimately back to Edmonton. As Safety Director for Sterling Crane, Russ travelled extensively, developing and collaborating on innovative safety programs for countless people and project sites.
An avid fisherman and golfer, Russ also enjoyed reading voraciously. He brought his attention to detail and patience to beautiful furniture refinishing and renovation projects throughout his life. Russ is celebrated as a generous community member, offering support and care to friends, family and neighbours at any time… particularly if a lawn needed tending.
We invite you to join Russ’ family in his Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Hainstock’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 9810 34 Avenue, NW, Edmonton Alberta, T6E 6L1.
