Raymond Douglas Johnston (known by many as Nicky Fordinski) passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, June 16th at the age of 72 after a brief battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Osage and raised in Fillmore Saskatchewan the oldest son of Bill and Mary Johnston and brother to Audrey Piper (Eldon), Beverley Johnston (Doug), and Bruce Johnston (Georgina). Ray began his career in radio and then moved into the car business where he created Nicky Fordinski a character that became an institution in the Edmonton area in the 1980’s. From his memorable commercials to hundreds of personal appearances Nicky became part of Ray and he loved every minute of it.
A salesman, storyteller and performer at heart, Ray loved being at the centre of it all and relished spending time with family and friends, and planning events for his K40 Club.
Ray is survived by his loving partner; Shirley Bowles, daughter; Kimberly Beaune (Richard), son; Mark Johnston, and extended family; Shelley & Todd Marsh and family, Sherry & Bob MacIntyre and family, Savannah & Chris Shelemy and Michael Ziola. Ray was predeceased by his brother; Bruce.
