Rabindra Nath Mohanty, born December 15, 1940 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India, passed away peacefully June 2, 2024 in St. Albert, Alberta, his home of 47 years where he raised his family and retired. He is a beloved son to Baidyanath Mohanty and Hemalata Das Mohanty. As a young man, he had a strong technical aptitude which led him to apprentice at Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company in India. To create his own path, he trekked through various countries including Germany and Canada and began his working career in 1969 as an Aerospace Quality Assurance Engineer for Northwest Industries in Edmonton, Alberta, the city where he met his loving wife, Flora. He was an extraordinary father, proud and loving to his two children, Liza and Ashok. He was very smart, disciplined, with a keen memory and diverse knowledge of world affairs. He was a non-material and generous person, who had a lifelong passion for investing and the stock market to ultimately support his dream of creating opportunities for others. His advice to family and friends was spot-on regarding money matters and life in general, and he loved helping people succeed. Rabi connected with people of all ages and backgrounds and enjoyed living a simple life during his later years at home: being a loving husband to Flora, spending time with his kids and grandchildren, chatting with his next-door neighbors, and staying in touch with family and old friends.
Rabindra is survived by his wife, Flora, daughter Liza, son Ashok (Kerry), grandchildren (Ashton, Nora, and Clark), brothers and sisters (Bishnupada, Geeta, Devendra, and Reeta), brother- and sisters-in-law (Andre, Zosima, and Emilia Samontanes), and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, mother, sister (Haripriya), and brother (Jeetendra). He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
A Funeral Service for Rabi will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 12pm at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, Alberta. A livestream of the service will be available through the scheduled services link below at the time of service.
A Celebration of Rabi's Life will take place at a later date.
