Born on September 28th, 1937, to Peter Kmech and Mary Krakalowich in Lamont, Alberta, Peter navigated life's journey with resilience and determination. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School, he proudly served in the Royal Canadian Airforce Reserve. His educational pursuits led him to NAIT and the University of Alberta.
Fatherless at the age of 10, Peter entered the workforce with unwavering dedication. Throughout his dynamic career, he embraced various roles, including truck driving, construction, federal government service, Edmonton Transit, and the City of Edmonton in Public Relations. A notable chapter saw him contribute to the success of a national campaign, "Smile When You Say EATON’S," during his time in promotions with T. Eaton Company. This endeavor paved the way for the creation of Creative Concepts, where he served as owner and President from 1978 until his well-deserved retirement in 2007. In 1996, Peter had the honor of serving as President of the PPAC (Promotional Products Association of Canada). He served as a director for 3 years prior to his presidency and induction into the PPAC Hall of Fame.
Peter's legacy will always be that of a storyteller, shaped by his dedication to radio. He held various roles such as Broadcaster, News & Sports Announcer, Reporter, and Disc Jockey from 1967 to 1975, leaving an enduring mark on his art of storytelling.
In 1964, Peter married Alice Kashuba in Edmonton, AB. Together, they raised three accomplished children and embraced the joy of being professional snowbirds, relishing the warmth of Blythe, California, alongside cherished friends and family. Peter found delight in activities like baseball, curling, golfing, and various outdoor pursuits in the desert.
Peter is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Alice, and his children: Lori (Tim) Webber, Monica (Terence) Forss, and Peter (Roslyn) Kmech. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Katelin, Liana, Ava, Oscar, Lyvia, and Broder. Survived by his sister, Caroline Kmech-Parton, Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Kmech and Mary Krakolowich, as well as sisters Elizabeth Kmech and Nancy Budney.
Prayer services to honor Peter's memory will take place at St. Basil’s Catholic Church on Thursday, January 11th, at 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hainstock Funeral Home, 9810-34 Avenue at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed at this link;
