(Nee McKenzie)
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mom (known to everyone as Mack) on November 26, 2010 at the age of 91 years.
She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her two sons, Leigh (Debi) and Norman (Teresa), grandchildren Leah and Paul, whom she loved dearly, brother Norman (Jean) in Saskatchewan, Sister – in – law Sandy in Ontario and many relatives and friends.
Mack was born on April 12, 1919 in Victoria BC one of four children of Neil and Frances McKenzie. She grew up in Saskatchewan during the dirty 30’s where she did nurse’s training in North Battleford SK and where she met her dear friend of almost 70 years, Doris Phillips (nee Light). She moved to Edmonton with Doris to find work where she also met her husband Ralph, they were married in Seattle, had her two boys and was an exemplary mother. Mack worked 30 years as a nurse at the Alberta Hospital. In her retirement, she became a world wide traveler and a skilled bridge player but most importantly became a Nana. Mack lived with dignity and resolve in the face of many health challenges, including cancer. Mack was predeceased by her husband Ralph in 2001, and by sister Ruth and Brother Dan.
Special thanks to the Doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Cross Cancer Institute who managed to make Mack’s cancer treatments so comfortable.
A Memorial service for Mack will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403-St. Albert Trail, Edmonton on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
Memorial Donations in Mack’s memory may be made directly to the Cross Cancer Institute or to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
