Manuel Sharko

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Manuel Sharko at the age of 92. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Linda (Tony), son Wayne (Susan) and grandchildren April (Brendan) and James. He was predeceased by his wife Maria, parents George and Mary, brothers Leo and Eugene. Manuel joined the RCAF in early 1942 at the age of 17. He was discharged with the rank of Flight Sergeant on February 17, 1945 after participating in 36 operational missions. On February 8, 2016, in recognition of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, France awarded Manuel the Legion of Honour at the Alberta Legislature for his participation in the liberation of France. Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Nisku, Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Very Reverend Igor Kisil officiating. Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude for the love, care and compassion shown to Manuel at the South Terrace Continuing Care Home in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Church 5604 - 101A Ave, Edmonton T6A 0L8.
