Jack was a very special man.

37 years ago, Jack held the life I have today in his hands.  His positive reaction and acceptance to what for him, at the time must have been distressing and likely infuriating was a defining time in my life. In many ways, Jack helped me set the stage for the man I would become and the truly blessed life I have now.

There are many great Jack memories, but one that stands out for me is he and I building the deck on our house. It was just after his heart surgery and I think he was going a little stir crazy cooped up home so he ended up hanging out with me for a week acting as deck building “Project Foreman”. We designed, we worked, we laughed, we kidded each other and we talked. And, despite our best efforts at not really being too serious about the task at hand, a beautiful deck took shape over the course of that week. For me, that deck is Jack – all that I think, know and feel about him is in that structure.

I will miss his gentle way, the quiet dry sense of humour, his remarkable acceptance of all things and all people and his giving, loving nature. Most of all, I will miss his coaching and his influence.

I love you Dad.

You raised a great family and we're grateful to have the Garrett's in our lives. 18 yrs ago I met this great guy, and till this day we are best buds (Ian). Thank you so much Mr Garrett. You will not be forgotten. RIP

Jack, how can I express how you make me feel or define your warmth and awesome personality.  When I first met you and your beautiful family, you did not question who I was or where I came from.  You just opened your doors and welcomed me into your home, and made me a part of your family.  That moment I felt the real definition of a loving family.  You made me feel like I was one of your kids, which was an awesome feeling.  What I am going to remember about you and am going to miss is that each time I came to your house, there was no greeting...just that "the Corona was downstairs" and sure enough, I would go downstairs and get my beer and come upstairs and say "cheers Jack!".  I am going to really miss my friend, my drinking buddy, and proud to say "Dad.".  But you are not gone, because I have all the memories and moments in my heart, so to me you are still here.  I salute you with my Corona.  Here's a little poem of how I see you...

My thoughts are with all of you. When I heard of "Mr. Garrett's" passing(he will always be Mr. to me), the memories of all the joy and fun I had growing up with the Garrett family just came flooding in. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I will miss your mischievous grin at the end of the table, your big bear hugs, and your thoughtful words. Thanks for having such a great lake home for all those years where i could have adventures and fall asleep in the hammock under the trees. I remember your ham radios, the way you always made sure the bird feeders were full, and the way you smiled at the squirrels. Thanks for teaching me how to hug properly. You'll live long in our hearts and memories. Miss you Grandpa.

Dear Mom, 
I'm comforted by the memories you and our family have though my heart aches for you. Near 65 years sharing and creating a world of family and friendships.  I will miss watching the two of you exchange knowing glances - no words necessary and that mischievous grin that would sometimes play on Dad's face.  I take comfort in believing he is near, in your heart, all our hearts.  I will fondly remember the bear hugs and kissed cheeks Dad gave me each time we met and then parted. Sometimes we travel a lonely road in life but that wasn't the case for me cause my Dad was always there, we had a lot of the same interests: we travelled together the latest was a Caribbean cruise with Mom, Elaine and me, the love of cars especially old cars, scotch whiskey, beers, computers, golf, good jokes and laughter.

Dad we have travelled a lot of the same road together, yup sometimes there was another path taken by us but the path seemed to bring us back to the same main drag throughout these years.  We are now faced with another fork in the road, a path, that takes you away forever.  We know this day comes for all of us sooner or later and no matter how you prepare for it your never ready.  I go through bouts of deep sadness and tears and then smile and then to a giggle when another memory pops up and I have many great ones.  I will miss you greatly. You have always been there, always had my back but now only my memories and thoughts can have you with me.

All this to say that I Love You Dad and will miss you and Thank You for everything you have 
meant, shown and given to me all these years.

My life has forever changed without you in this world and it's a strange feeling knowing that I can't come to you or hear your voice. Our deepest sympathy and thank you for letting us know.
We had so much fun together while we were in Edmonton and flying to Florida; and Jack introduced us to his Motorhome and to Yuma and to the'' puces'' as he would say (flee markets) LOL!. Thanks' to you we are still in our Motorhome and this year,  in Florida. (It was cold this Winter)after 12 years in Yuma. We are loosing one half of our friends,the other half is you Lou and you will continue hearing from us.

I am most sorry to hear about Jack's passing and I wish Lou well.  Jack worked with my father at the U.I.C. office in Edmonton many years ago and that's how I met him.  Some years back, my wife and I stopped in to see him and he introduced us to Lou.  We had a nice visit and have been corresponding periodically since then.

John and I would like to send our heartfelt sympathy to all of the Jack's family.  When ever the four of us got together there was always a long conversation about our families.  We were always kept up with events that had happened or were going on with your family.  Jack was so proud of you all.

All those long years ago still make us laugh about how we met out at Mara Lake and the good times we had in the following years.  Jack was always the same, calm and easy to get along with.  He was so happy to take everyone out for a ski tour behind that little old boat.  Thru the years our paths didn't always meet but it was always a pleasure to see Jack when he and Lou were going down to Claresholm.  It was nice to share a meal and have a few laughs about our trailering years and hear the latest family news.  John and I would laugh about all his RV and car changes over the years.  Although we hadn't seen Jack personally over the last few years it was with great pleasure that we did hear a lot from him when John was having his heart problems.  Such a good friend to be so concerned about us.

To David...so sorry to read about your father's recent passing.  Lindsay and I lost our father in December so I know what you are going through.  My thoughts are with you.  Take care.

I will forever be thankful for having had the opportunity to get to know Grandpa.  He was such a kind and gentle man with such a warm heart for his family. I will forever hold my memories of my visits with him in my heart.

My dad was a special man, a quiet gentle soul, that loved his family unconditionally. I will miss his hugs, his sense of humour and his love for a good garage sale.  There are no words for me to say how much I loved him, but I know that he always knew how very special he was to me. The memories I hold of him are now treasures forever in my heart.

To the Garrett Family.  I was very sad to read about Mr. Garrett's passing.  Although its been a long time since I've been in contact with the family, I have vivid memories of the great times we had being driven to band or cadets..etc, by Mr. Garrett.  He cared that his children would have every opportunity to participate in activities they liked and, like myself, Dave and Jack's friends had fun as well as we tagged along.  I'm sure Mr. Garrett had great memories of us all when we were younger.  He was a wonderful dad to his children and their friends.  I know you'll miss him.
