The family of John Cairns (Jack) is deeply saddened to announce his passing on January 16, 2025, at the great age of 90. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. We find comfort in knowing he is now at peace and free from pain.
Jack's greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. His heart was always brightest when surrounded by family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Marquita; his children, Ken (Moira), Jackie (Len), Patrick (Cristina), and Chrissy (James); and his bonus sons, Richard and Robert. He also leaves behind many adored grandchildren: Chad (Jesse), Jason (Brandon), Christian (Courtney), Nicole (Mitch), Grayson, Octavian, Fisher and Great Grandchildren: Bella, Alexander, Camila; and many close friends over the years.
Jack and Marquita shared countless happy miles on the dusty roads as members of the Edmonton Antique Car Club and The Alberta Post War Car Society driving their cherished 1927 Essex, 1956 Buick, and 1976 Mercedes. Together, they explored the world, traveling far and wide and created many treasured memories. Jack enjoyed many hours as a licensed HAM radio operator, forming friendships with fellow enthusiasts across the globe. He repaired and restored many antique radios bringing them back to life for himself and others. Jack found peace in nature, spending quiet moments feeding birds, squirrels, rabbits as well as a love of riding horses in his younger years.
Predeceased by his siblings, Ron, Bruce, Jean.....Jack is now reunited with them.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cross Cancer Institute, the Stollery Children's Hospital, or Operation Smile Canada would be greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Jack’s life will take place on Jan 30th at 11:00 at Memories Funeral Home 13403 St Albert Trail NW, Edmonton, reception to follow at the Italian Cultural Center. Interment will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St Joachim Cemetery.
