Janet Dorothy Perry, 83, of Edmonton, AB, passed away peacefully in the evening of December 23, 2020. She was born August 24, 1937 in England to Hubert and Elsie Payne (nee Scott). Janet lived with her parents and sister, Patricia, in Wittersham while growing up. She was extremely intelligent and graduated from secondary school qualifying for university but chose instead to attend secretarial college in order to support her future family. She was married to the late James Thomas Perry in 1959 and they started a family in Berkshire. Janet and Jim welcomed their first two sons Nicholas and Simon while living near Abingdon during the first 8 years of their marriage. They decided to immigrate to Canada in 1967 to start a new chapter hoping to prosper from greater opportunities overseas. They settled in southwest Edmonton with Jim finding work at the University of Alberta as a dental technician and a few years later, Janet gave birth to their third son Jonathan. After raising her three boys, Janet joined Jim at the U of A working as a medical secretary until she retired. Janet is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her relationship with her own mother and inherited her skill for cooking, baking, sewing and knitting. Sunday dinners were always a treat as she loved entertaining family and friends. She made friends easily and had a vast social network playing and teaching bridge, quilting and sewing. Janet was a keen reader and devoured books by the thousands throughout her life. As a result of this, her training and her career, she was an expert in the English language and had a vast knowledge of history, science, finance, literature, math…the list goes on. Before the internet age, if you needed to know anything, you just had to “ask Mum”. She enjoyed visiting many places in the world with her travelling companion Jeannette. Her passports were filled with border stamps from a vast array of countries. Janet is survived by her 3 sons, Nicholas (Marvet), Simon (Valerie) and Jonathan; her grandchildren Sean (Tesa), Nicole (Nathan) Perron, Stephanie (Darren) Parks, Kevin (Samantha) and Jason; and her great-grandchildren Kira, Kaeley, Liam, Josephine, Blake, Lola and Everly.
