November 5, 1924 -July 13, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Dahl announces his passing on July 13th, 2021, in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 96. Gordon was born in Calgary on November 5th, 1924. The family moved to Edmonton when he was in elementary school, where he continued his education.
Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan of 69 years; his daughters, Barb Burton (Ken), Jacquie Dahl-Warren (Marty); four grandchildren, Erin Burton (Jeremy), Tyler Burton (Geena), David Warren, Nikki Warren; and two great grandchildren, Kieran and Brooke. Gordon was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Dahl-Day and his parents, Annie and Rannald Dahl.
Gordon served in the Navy in WWII and upon his return to Edmonton, he accepted a sales manager opportunity with SSF Distribution. After his marriage to Joan in 1952, he was transferred to Winnipeg, where both daughters were born. In 1956, he was transferred to Regina, where Gordon and Joan raised their family and met many friends through the Regina Golf Club. Golf and sports were our Dad’s passion throughout his life. He was the team captain for baseball and football in high school and played both junior and semi-professional hockey in Edmonton. Gordon and Joan attended the Regina Roughrider games with their friends for many years and he enjoyed most spectator sports. After retirement, they moved back to Edmonton where most of his family resided. He enjoyed over 20 years playing golf at the Windermere Golf Club, won many trophies to add to his collection and ‘shot his age’ at 77. He worked as a Marshall at Pioneer Meadows during his last few years of golf. Gordon was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the skills of skating and golf.
Due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease, he was hospitalized in February 2021 and passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Hospice. We would like to thank the various healthcare teams and physicians at the Grey Nuns, the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, Royal Alex, and St. Josephs Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. A special thank you to the staff and care teams at Revera Riverbend Retirement Residence where Gordon and Joan have lived for six years.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to The Glenrose Hospital Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 9810 34 Ave. Edmonton AB 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 20, 2021. It will be livestreamed for those unable to attend using this link: https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1626398908125504
