Glenn Evans Miller

Glenn attended Aldersgate College as well as the University of Alberta. He then began his teaching career in Lacombe, Alberta, having his brother as one of his first students.

Glenn met Barbara Stonehocker and they started dating while she was attending university in California. They were married on March 5th, 1971. In 1974 they welcomed Randal into the family, followed by Greg in 1976 and Jody in 1979. Growing up years were busy and the household was filled with friends, fun and lots of laughter.

Glenn taught math, physical and outdoor education in the Edmonton Public system. He also spent many hours coaching multiple school sports teams, teaching kids to waterski at Lone Prairie Camp, chaperoning ski trips and ushering at Ellerslie Road Baptist Church.

Glenn possessed an adventurous and competitive spirit that he shared with many in his life. This included canoe racing, camping, skiing, cycling, waterskiing, golfing and curling.

Glenn’s positive spirit and rugged determination allowed him to overcome the loss of his legs. He often stated that he felt God had given him bonus years and he was thankful for the additional 20 years that he was gifted. He accepted his new state, embraced prosthetic legs, learned to walk better than many his age, and leveraged the new found freedom of a handicap parking pass. His challenge was to live better with less, and he did!

Glenn continued to volunteer his time, talents and treasure to the service of God and others. His servant spirit was rooted in his faith in God and the Alberta-can-do spirit. He lived out the words of Galatians 5:22: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control”.

Glenn will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara; son Randal (Megan)and their children Dalis and RJ; son Greg (Karen); daughter Jody (Dustin) Winstanley and their children Kade and Bretton; brother Daryl along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
