March 26,1933 - January 27, 2023
Eileen Smith sadly announces the passing of her wonderful husband and soulmate, an amazing father to their children, Kerry (Julia), Tammy (Todd) and Tawny (Chris). Grandchildren Samantha, Taylor, Corey, McKenzie, and Meaghann, also numerous relatives, and friends.
George was born in Timmins Ontario on March 26th 1933, the oldest of five children. He met the love of his life, Eileen at the bowling lanes in Montreal while he was a professional 10 pin bowler. They married on January 28th 1963, and he was transferred to Edmonton with RCA in 1969.
In 1974 with a few employees George decided to start his own business that would grow into a successful company. George contributed the success of Allwest to the fact that he had the best employees. With their help and dedication Allwest became a key player in Alberta selling office furnishings, with offices in both Edmonton and Calgary.
George and Eileen enjoyed travelling the world, seeking new adventures everywhere they went. It was on these travels that they met many wonderful people, of which several would become lifelong friends.
Since the birth of his grandson Corey, and seeing the struggles of the neurosurgeons, George dedicated many hours working to improve neurosurgery capabilities at the U of A, including raising funds to purchase and set up the Gamma Knife Surgery suite. This technology allows surgeons to do painless scalpel-free surgery for certain conditions.
To continue this work and in his memory we ask that instead of flowers, donations be made to the University Hospital Foundation (George Smith).
