My first encounter was as a very junior resident just arrived in Alberta. He was the chairman of the Department and we were both on call on a Saturday. In those days we took call from home, where I was when he called at about 4 in the afternoon...and made me come in, and there was absolutely nothing that needed doing or had not been done, he just wanted to see if I could really make it in promptly! Years later he hired me to the medical staff and years after that we took a holiday  at the same resort in the Okanagan, at his and Gwen's recommendation. Always the professor as he readied his boat, everything so precise. This holiday resulted in "Summer with Sebastian" , a book written by Gwen about  our 5 year old son and his very little sister. We really appreciated the mentorship then,  not just about medicine but about life, seeing that my husband is also Hungarian they connected as only Hungarians can!

I am so sorry for your loss. George was a remarkable and lovely man who will be missed by all who had the privilege of encountering him. My memories are of a gentle and kind man with great warmth and wit. My heart is with you at this difficult  time.

Dear Mrs. Molnar and the Molnar Family,
I met Dr. Molnar at the University of Alberta Division of Endocrinology Case Conference meetings some time around 2004. I was a trainee in Pediatric Endocrinology. Dr. Molnar attended these seminars faithfully in his elder years. His contributions were always valuable - a historical perspective, a question not yet considered, a humorous anecdote. I am inspired by Dr. Molnar's sustained interest in his field (and my field!) of medicine well into the years beyond his official employment. Although I did not know him well,  he was kind, and I appreciate that he took interest in those of us who were the newest students (at that time). I am glad to have had these interactions with Dr. Molnar during my training, and I missed him when he was no longer able to attend our seminars. With these memories and my condolences, I wish you peace.

Dr. Molnar ,  My friend ...  thinking ... as we always did .... in good and difficult times.... remember :
 You haven been the light for some many among us in the medical scientific path for the past 40 years .

George Molnar

George and I served together on the Clinical and Scientific Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association. He also had me appointed as the chairman of the National Nutrition Committee. I enjoyed working with him and was fortunate to benefit from his wise counsel. My wife, Pat, and I valued our friendship with Gwen and George and treasure  fond memories of time spent with them. 

He was a dear friend and Colleague. He hired me and was most supportive of the islet transplant research I was persuing.
As chair of Medicine he was responsible for making the Faculty of Medicine at the UofA a leader in Diabetes rearch world wide. 
We worked together for many years and I always enjoyed our lunch meeting in which he served me tea which he prepared in a special way  in a clay fired blue pot.
Dear friend, great colleague , wonderful chairmen of Medicine at U of A and great leader in Diabetes Rearch world wide.


George was a gentleman and a scholar.  He was also an outstanding medical leader and administrator, and it was such a privilege to work with him. He was also very witty and an excellent raconteur when he was "off duty". Most importantly, he was a loving husband and father, and immensely proud of his family. Oliver and I send our condolences to you, Gwen, and to your family on your loss, but we also celebrate his life, and the richness he brought into other people's lives.
