Dorothy May Kuss

Left to mourn her passing are Dorothy’s sons, Tim (Lynda DeHoog) and Darcy (Sherri); her grandchildren, Elliott, Alyson, Madeline and Morgan; her siblings, Shirley, Lorraine (Dave) and Dick (Terry); as well as close friends, Tim and Adele Auger. Dorothy will also be dearly missed by her extended family and many dear friends from the numerous coffee and activities groups she belonged to over the years.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Elden and her brothers, Roger and Ervin.

With a warm and welcoming personality that made you want to open up to her, Dorothy had a knack for making friends. You could be sure that if her wit and sense of humour didn’t draw you in, it was certain that her fabulous German cooking would. Once you were close with Dorothy, you knew that you had her constant support and sharp advice. You also knew that you always had someone in your corner.

Dorothy was dedicated to her family; each moment spent with them was a blessing. So many cherished memories were made while on nightly phone calls with her siblings, building Go-Karts with her sons, taking her grandchildren on her late night snack runs for chips and gravy, and as an avid fan watching her favourite Oiler play. (It’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in case you’re wondering). Dorothy built an extraordinary relationship with her granddaughters, one that was full of meaningful time spent together along with iced capps and apple fritters. They even taught her to become a texting guru with daily updates, emojis and pet pictures. Beyond all else, Dorothy’s family never spent one moment of their time with her wondering if they were loved, she showed it in each interaction she had with them.

Next time you’re missing Dorothy remember some advice from her: a whole tray of freshly baked brownies is a great midnight snack, you’re never too old to pretend to camp in the tents and paddle the canoes displayed in the store and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

In keeping with Dorothy’s grateful and appreciative manner, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many healthcare professionals who accompanied Dorothy on her journey with Cancer. A special thank you to all of the staff of the Pilgrims Hospice Society- Roozen Family Hospice Centre, for taking the time to build a personal connection with Dorothy and her family. You all went beyond the call of duty to create a respectful, caring and beautiful experience in her final days.

Never one to be the center of attention, Dorothy has requested that a small private family gathering take place.
