It is with immense sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our superhero wife, mother, and grandmother Jo-Anne on September 19, 2020. Jo-Anne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years Gary; two sons Sean (Gloria) and Scott (Natasha); daughter Robyn (Cory); grandchildren Charlie, Ethan, Liliana, Jameson and Vivienne; brother James (Donna); brother in law Brian (Sandra); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Alexander and Cora Kennedy.
Jo-Anne was born in Edmonton and grew up in Fort Saskatchewan. She graduated from the U of A where she met Gary and after a short time in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, they settled in Edmonton and eventually on an acreage near Devon where they raised their children. Her career as a clinical dietitian spanned 44 years at the Devon, Stony Plain and Leduc hospitals, where she had the privilege of working with many caring colleagues who became lifelong friends.
Jo-Anne was passionate about volunteerism and service and continued this in her retirement by spending her time with the Devon United Church Thrift Shop, Edmonton Food Bank, and The Good Samaritan Society. Despite a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, Jo-Anne lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed her time golfing in the Devon Monday Night Ladies League, gardening, traveling, supporting her children and grandchildren in their extra-curricular activities and spending time with her family and friends.
We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Eva Patocka for her years of health and wellness support. A very special thank you goes to the staff at the Leduc Community Hospital for their tender care of Jo-Anne during her brief battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Food Bank or the Parkinson Association of Alberta.
