Colette Maclean born April 26, 1963, always had plans. They often involved adventures, enfolding her huge loving family and dear friends. She could pivot gracefully to find the best path through difficult times and effortlessly brought loved ones together. Colette passed away May 12, 2022, after a brief 28 day illness, in her own home, bravely directing her own care with poise and grace, surrounded by her beloved family.
She was so happy to be number 8 in a family of 9 children, and was a proud, engaged aunt to16 nieces and nephews and 24 greats. Those relationships only strengthened through this last challenging month, with the love so evident. Even in her most difficult last days, Colette’s spirit persisted, bringing family together to celebrate her 59th birthday a mere days after her release from hospital.
Colette was adventurous, travelling the world and enjoying many exotic locations. A favourite memory was taking 3 young nephews, then 3 nieces for trips on their own to visit her in Vancouver. She fostered a love of travel in so many. Merging her love of travel and calling to serve, she was a driving force for early Dreams Take Flight trips, taking special kids to Disneyland. In her later work with The Youth Empowerment and Support Services and St Vincent de Paul Society, she passionately cared for others.
Her independent nature had her constantly seeking new opportunities, trying new careers, and travelling as well as moving to different cities. She was an entrepreneur at heart and financially shrewd. She loved blues music, coffee, great food, and appreciated everything spicy!
Colette is predeceased by parents, Carmen and Archie (AJ) MacLean.
