Anne Louise Gabrielle Côté, loving spouse, mother, daughter, friend, lawyer, feminist, traveller, music aficionado and social critic, peacefully passed away on September 18, 2024. Anne battled lung and brain cancer for over eight years. Throughout she displayed her fortitude, resilience, and biting wit along with an endearing passion for family, tea, reading, music, travel, gin and sloths.
Anne was born in Edmonton on June 1, 1974 at the University of Alberta Hospital. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours English (1998) and a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction (2001). At law school, Anne distinguished herself as co-Editor of the Alberta Law Review and as a researcher notably publishing a number of academic articles prior to graduation. Her legal career began as an articling student with the Alberta Court of Appeal. She continued her articles at Bennett Jones, was hired as an associate and was eventually called to the Alberta Bar (2002). Anne continued her work as a partner at Field Law where she practised privacy and labour law and appeared in front of all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2019 Anne retired from Field Law to focus on her health and well-being. https://www.fieldlaw.com/News-Views-Events/238402/Remembering-Anne-Ct
Always keen to demonstrate her breadth of knowledge about books, films, politics and fashion, Anne could typically be relied upon to assert her opinion which was, almost always, definitive and correct. Anne will also be remembered as someone who never shied away from adventurous choices, which could be seen in her choice of colourful outfits, cars and handbags.
Anne is survived by her spouse William (Bill) Foster, child Eden Côté-Foster, parents Patrica Claire Côté (née Draper), Jean Edouard Léon Côté, brother J. Roger Côté, and many other loving family and friends.
Anne’s funeral will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home on Friday October 4th at 10 am, and her Celebration of Life will begin at 11:30 at 4531 Mead Court NW. All friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.
