November 27, 1934-April 4, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters; Kathleen Schmidt (Ralf), Claire Smith and her two grandsons; Graeme and Cameron. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Douglas and her granddaughter Meghan.
Ann was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1934. She always stayed true to her Scottish roots no matter where she lived. Her schooling was completed in Glasgow, where she attended Glasgow University, majoring in English. Ann met the love of her life; Douglas while holidaying with her family. They married in 1959 and then moved to Saskatchewan, where both daughters were born. Ann and Douglas moved back to Scotland, where they lived till they immigrated to Edmonton in 1969.
Ann spent many years volunteering for Meals on Wheels and at the Edmonton General Hospital. Her days were always full, enjoying her many friends, entertaining, writing, going to the theater, opera, ballet and the symphony. At home, she loved, gardening, reading, crafts, television especially PBS, British programs and Jeopardy. Over the years, she enjoyed travelling with Britain and Europe always being her favorite destinations.
Over the last few years, Ann's favorite times were getting together with her family, enjoying special dinners and playing games.
Many thanks to ER, unit 17 and 15 at the Sturgeon General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any homeless shelter in her memory. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.
