September 16th, 1978 – October 23rd, 2023
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the loss of Amy Kathryn Smith, age 45
of Edmonton, Alberta. Amy passed peacefully on October 23rd, 2023 surrounded by loved
ones, after a hard-fought battle with a physical illness. Amy is survived by her devoted
husband Shane, their beloved children Cohen and Bennett, parents Sam and Brenda
Fefferman, sister Tara (Brad) Evans, Shane’s parents, Gary and Judy Smith (and the Smith
family), maternal grandmother Katherine Hooper and numerous much loved nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Amy was born on September 16th, 1978 in Dawson Creek, B.C. to Sam and Brenda Fefferman.
She graduated from Harry Ainlay High School in 1996 and went on to study Finance and
Marketing at NAIT in Edmonton, Alberta. Amy and Shane married in Edmonton on July 17th,
2004. In October 2008, they reveled in the arrival of son, Cohen. In December of 2014, Amy
and Shane welcomed son Bennett to complete their beautiful family.
From the start, Amy radiated a bright, beaming light into each room she entered and
possessed an infectious, unforgettable joy-filled laugh. Amy was inquisitive, intelligent,
determined and a loving, generous person at heart.
Amy continuously embraced a genuine affinity and deep empathy for all animals, which
inspired her co-ownership of Tamarack Veterinary Clinic in Edmonton, Alberta. It was there
she delighted in the opportunity to fulfill her true calling; dedicating her life’s work to
assisting animals in need of care.
Amy will be dearly missed by her family and friends, yet cherished memories of her will
provide comfort and she will continue to live on through her children, as well as in the hearts
and minds of all who knew and loved her.
Cremation has taken place. Amy now rests peacefully with her maternal grandfather, Ernest
G. Hooper, maternal uncle, William J. (Jack) Hooper and her paternal grandparents. In
keeping with Amy’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Paws in Need Animal
Rescue or charity of your choice.
