Yvonne was born April 13, 1937, in Loco, Oklahoma to W.E. and Lavena Monsey.
She and her older brother, Billy Ray, were raised in Duncan, Oklahoma, before moving with her parents to their farm, the Double M Ranch, near Sterling, Oklahoma.
Yvonne met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Duane, at Duncan High School. Yvonne and Duane were married on August 16, 1957, at her farm, the Double M Ranch. She and Duane eventually settled in Del City, Oklahoma, where they raised their two sons: Gary and Rusty.
Yvonne grew up in a “teacher’s world.” Her father, the Superintendent of the Duncan School District, and her mother a teacher at the same elementary school she attended. Her parents’ educational impact on her life helped her choose her lifelong career of teaching. Yvonne taught at Epperly Heights Elementary School in the Mid-Del School District beginning in the early 1960s. She almost immediately took several years off from being a teacher to raise Gary and Rusty but returned to Epperly Heights in 1976. Yvonne eventually retired from teaching at the only school she had ever taught at: Epperly Heights Elementary School.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, and husband of 66 years, Duane.
Yvonne is survived by her two sons: Gary and Rusty, three grandchildren: Brandie, Jake, and Sydney, nieces: Debbie and Sarah, as well as several great grandchildren.
Yvonne will be deeply missed by those who called her “Mom”, “Oma”, and “Mrs. Monkres.”
A memorial service for Yvonne will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK.
