Velma graduated from Eden High School and also North Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She taught school for 26 years.
Her career began in Phillips, TX where she met and married Sam England on July 19, 1942. After moving to Odessa in 1948 they had one son, Byron. Velma was a long time and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and had many friends and cherished memories.
After her husband’s passing in 1993, Velma stayed in Odessa, TX until June of 2004 when she moved to Edmond, OK.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her son, Byron England and his wife Kathy of Edmond; three grandsons, Casey England of Austin, TX, Matt England of Dallas, TX and Ryan England of Edmond, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas.
